Sailing is being conducted in this part of the world since 1932. During this era, first yacht club known as Royal Karachi Yacht Club was established at Bunker Island Manora, which was solely managed and operated by britshers and expatriates till 1947. After independence this sport has been mainly kept alive by the three services. During initial period sailing was only limited to inter clubs and inter services level events.
In 1969 Pakistan Yachting Association (PYA) was formed by Rear Admiral M A K Lodhi, Capt Z U Chaudhry and Rody Hermes of the Karachi Yacht Club. In 1978 when Bahram D Avari and Capt (R) Munir Sadiq won the first Gold Medal in the Asian Games, the Association was recognized by Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and Pakistan Olympic Association (POA).
Later in 1996 the name of PYA was changed to Pakistan Sailing Federation (PSAF) and a permanent secretariat was established at National Sailing Centre in year 2000. As per present constitution CNS is the Patron in Chief of PSAF and Commander Karachi is the ex-Officio “President” of PSAF. The other appointments of Senior Vice President, Vice Presidents, Secretary General, Treasurer and PRO are elected appointments. However, COMKAR is also elected as President of PSAF. read more
